Review of Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy: “It felt like a little heaven at the end of a day of touring Rome...”
I stayed at the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy October 2007 with a friend and we used Starwood points. If we had to pay for the room during high season in Rome it would have cost over 1000 Euros. I don't think any hotel room anywhere in the world is worth that kind of money but since we used our points it was free. Our hotel room was large with french doors opening to a balcony. Fresh fruit was in our room upon arrival. The bedding was all down, very fluffy and inviting. It felt like a little heaven at the end of a day of touring Rome. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The large television had some English channels. The bathroom had 2 sinks plus bidet. The shower was my clear favorite, in addition to a high pressure shower there was also a hand held shower that ran at the same time.
The Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy is within walking distance to the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps (Piazza di Spagna). The Metro station is 1 block away and easy to find. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Westin Excelsior and would stay here again myself.

We stayed in the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy over valentines weekend during our visit to Rome February 2009 to watch the Irish rugby team take on Italy in the six nations.
On arrival we were informed that our request for an early check in had been granted, which impressed us as it was a big rugby weekend and the hotel had been full booked the previous night.
Our hotel room was cozy and nicely decorated and although we overlooked a side street, we could still had a view of the Via Veneto from our balcony to the left. The pool and gym are located in the basement, it was usually quiet and I had the place to myself, so it did not matter that it was quite small and compact.
Some hotel reviews have mentioned that the Westin Excelsior Hotel staff aren't the most service orientated and I would say that this is true to a certain extent. We had done our research on the internet on where we wanted to go and what to see in Rome so we didn't need the staff's help, but the little interaction that we did have did not overly impress me. There was nothing seriously wrong with the service, only that the staff didn't seem overly interested.
After dinner one evening we decided to have a drink in the hotel bar and discovered that the Irish and Italian rugby teams had been in the hotel for their after match dinner. The G7 leaders had also had their meetings in the ball room the day before, so clearly the Westin Excelsior Hotel books some high-end clients and functions, but 18 Euros for a beer and coke in the lobby bar is a bit steep.
On our last morning I used the hotel's business centre to check in for our flights and print our boarding cards - good value at 3 Euro for the 15 mins I used. This also included free colour printing and use of the telephone to book our car to Fiumicino airport. I found the business centre to be one of the best that I have used on our travels in Italy and Rome.
The hotel is situated in a nice location in Via Veneto and only a short walk to most Rome tourist attractions. We usually walked to the nearby Spagna Metro stop and made our way to the Colosseum before walking past some of the major Rome tourist attractions and museums on our route back to the hotel.
Our reservation included breakfast, which is not always included with other Rome hotel rates, and my advice to those who do not have breakfast included in their rates is to steer clear of the hotel. At 32 Euros per person for a continental breakfast and 42 for a cooked breakfast the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy have vastly 'overcooked' their food prices. I could imagine that in summer it would be nice to enjoy breakfast on the street terrace overlooking the Via Veneto, but compared to breakfasts I have eaten at other 5 star Rome hotels and hotels around the world, the Westin is a poor second. There are several places on the Via Veneto where you can find a superior breakfast at much lower price.
Overall the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy is a nice hotel in a good location in Via Veneto and they provided us with a welcoming base from which to explore the interests and beauties of Rome. There are certain issues with staff service, but nothing that would be likely to make your stay in Rome an unpleasant experience. The positives outweigh the negatives and I would most likely stay here again given the opportunity.

We stayed at the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy from February 15th through February 21st 2009. We booked on points for the first four nights, received the fifth night "free" and used points for a discounted sixth night rate. We arrived quite early after a long flight to Rome. The hotel was fully booked the previous night, being Valentine's weekend.
From the time we arrived the staff were wonderful. Lauren took care of our check-in and made sure we relaxed with a pot of Italian coffee in the stunning lounge of the palazzo while they prepared our room for our early arrival. She also let us know that they had upgraded our room which now had a view over the Via Veneto. The hotel room had a lovely balcony, crystal chandeliers and was very large. The large marble bath was clean and lovely as well.
All the concierges were friendly and helpful, we felt welcomed and well cared for the whole week. The staff at the hotel Westin Excelsior Rome made our stay in Rome a delight. We didn't eat in the hotel and mostly spent the week touring the Rome sights, usually we only had a pot of coffee in the morning.
There is also a small informal market two blocks around the corner from the hotel for anything you might want or need while touring about Rome. Loved the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy and the staff!

Review of the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy: “This was the highlight of our trip to Italy...”

Had a great time in Rome. The Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy is in a great location, and slightly away from all the chaos that only Rome can offer. A short stroll and you're already at the top of the spanish steps.
Our suite was amazing, and the service was good. We parked down the street at a garage for a much cheaper rate than the 48 euros per day they wanted. We also had the breakfast buffet one morning, very American with an omelette station, eggs, bacon, potatoes and sausage. Not for the budget traveler though, at 42 euros per person for full access to the buffet, otherwise limited to a continental breakfast for 30 euros. Fine hotel and highly recommended. The great location means the trevi fountain, the spanish steps, and the Rome monuments are only a short walk. Enjoy!
* Liked Incredible suite and giant walk in closet
* Disliked Overpriced parking charges

I am so happy that there is a Westin Excelsior in Rome!
I came to the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy after not being able to tolerate the hard bed and lack of internet access in our hotel room at the Albergo del Senato Hotel. The Westin is 5 star Hotel in all respects, no complaints. The Hotel is located in the Via Veneto area which is a very upscale neighborhood of Central Rome. They have a heavenly Gym including pool, sauna and turkish bath. Very necessary considering all the good Roman food and Rome restaurants.
The heavenly bed is priceless. Also there is a nice Bar (Italian for Cafeteria) to the right outside the hotel and another right at the second block, which has an awesome breakfast and the best eggplant ever for lunch.
I will definitely be staying at the Westin Excelsior Hotel on our next holiday in Rome.

We stayed at the Westin Excelsior hotel in Rome for 4 days in October 2008. The hotel is a classic, with refurbished hotel rooms and facilities that make it a grand luxurious hotel. The rooms are good sizes, and the bathrooms are marble or travertine with a good size tub and powerful shower - simply outstanding.
The location of the hotel is the best thing, situated on Via Vittorio Veneto, and only a few minutes walk from major Metro stops at Spagna and Barberini, and you CAN walk from here to many major Rome attractions (everyone walks everywhere in Rome anyway).
We didn't eat at the hotel's restaurant "Doney," so I can't comment. Room service, was efficient, and the quality adequate, though not outstanding (we were hoping for great food from Rome).
Inside the hotel itself is decorated with plenty of art and the landings on each floor are beautifully.
The hotel staff is professional and extremely helpful providing us with information about Rome tourist attractions and travel, plus they gave us an excellent recommendation for a Roman restaurant and the best meal we had in Rome.
You won't be disappointed if you stay at the Hotel Lord Byron Rome Italy - great hotel, and well located in Central Rome.

Review of Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy: “hotel is luxury 5 star all the way, rooms are huge and elegant...”
-- Hotel Westin Excelsior Rome Italy --
Of all the hotels we have stayed at in Italy and Rome, the Westin Excelsior hotel in Rome was the best, and the best Starwoods property we have stayed at in Europe. The central Rome location is handy, next to the US Embassy and a short taxi ride to any attraction in the historical center of Rome. The hotel is luxury 5 star all the way, rooms are huge and elegant. The buffet breakfast is fabulous and the hotel front desk people are very helpful. The concierge directed us to the best little restaurant we found in Rome and probably Italy, it is near the Spanish Steps and is called Restaurante 34. Ask for Renzo, the best waiter in the whole of Italy. The hotel also has a beautiful indoor pool for the kids. I strongly recommend the Hotel Lord Byron Rome Italy.

We stayed at the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy for two nights in September 2008. I have never heard so many "can't do that" or "sorry can't help" from 5 star hotel staff. The hotel's lobby is seemingly permanently occupied by five men standing around doing nothing and unwilling to help. One day it was raining heavily and I enquired whether a staff member who was using a hotel umbrella could loan me his umbrella, he refused so my family had to go out in the rain while he kept his umbrella planted in a flower pot! We found the rooms dirty, with tacky carpets, and the bathrooms need a lot of money spent on them. The location is great, and the pool is very nice, but I suggest that you go elsewhere, there are better hotels around at this price. Also, the service levels need a dramatic overhaul

My wife and I stayed at the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy on our last night in Italy. After two weeks of traveling through Italy and 5 other Italian hotels, this was a fabulous end to our honeymoon. The service was second to none and the accommodations were wonderful. I can see why some review say it needs some refurbishing, but I still feel this does not take away from the stay. The balcony has a wonderful view of Via Veneto, and the location is perfect, and very close to Termini train station. You can also very easily walk to the Spanish Steps or Villa Borghese gardens within 10 minutes. We highly recommend the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy.

We arrived at the hotel on June 8 2008 and our stay was for 3 nights in Rome The room and bathroom were spacious. The Westin Excelsior Rome is a beautiful hotel with great housekeeping and front desk service. During our stay the hotel was busy with numerous business meetings but it wasn't a problem for us.
As we were trying not to blow the budget and we enquired about a local casual Roman places to eat. The concierge directed towards the Borghese gardens to a small restaurant called "Bruschetta" - great pizza at reasonable prices, we also bought take out there several times. Next to Bruschetta is a coffee shop/restaurant/grocery store with reasonably priced yummy take out service with paninis. They had awesome pastries and cookies as well. We never ate at the hotel so I can't comment on quality or price of the hotel's restaurants.
The location is not in the heart of the Rome tourist spots, but it was an easy walk to any of the main Rome tourist attractions. Alternatively the subway is convenient, and the cabs never cost us more than 8 Euros shared in 3 people.
All in all it was a nice stay at the Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome. I might try another location next time purely for the experience, but we were quite satisfied.

Review of Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy: “compared to other 5 stars hotels in Italy, this is exceptional ...”
-- Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy --
The Westin Excelsior Hotel Rome Italy must surely be in the Top 10 luxury hotels in Rome. It's clean, comfortable and a very efficient establishment. They even had private tours available to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. From the hotel, Italy is very accessible by train, Florence, Venice and Lake Como.
We lived in Italy for over a year, and compared to other 5 stars hotels in Italy, this is exceptional. I don't recommend eating at the Roman restaurants that border the tourist sites, rather take a walk and venture into the back streets. Roman cuisine is numero uno, ask for it.

We visited Rome for the first time and had a great time at the Westin. After we arrived on the first day we ordered coffee from room service, it was expensive, 24 Euros, but it was wheeled in on a beautiful table-clothed cart with china and steamed milk. It was delicious and arrived within 10 minutes. The staff were very friendly and helped us in finding our way to the Colosseum, Pantheon etc. They also had wash cloths, something our other two hotels in Italy didn't have. The room and beds were big and comfortable, even the pillows were great.
The best part of the Westin Excelsior Hotel for me was the spa. The lady who runs it is tall and attractive lady and the most gracious person we en counted in Italy. The lady who gave me a massage was skilled and really worked out the kinks I told her about. After so much walking through Rome the day before, the foot rub was especially appreciated. It was expensive to have it in the hotel room, but it felt so luxurious I could have napped afterwards.
