Public transport Rome: Trams explained

This article will help better explain the routes, stops and how to get around easier using the tram transportation in Rome...

Public transport Rome: Trams

Trams operate from 5:10Am until 12:00Pm every day and trams pass every 6 minutes (except Sundays - every 12 minutes). ATAC have a diagram of the tram system on their site however it doesn't show the routes in relation to an area or street map of Rome Italy.

To make life easier for you I have plotted the routes on a street map of Rome Italy, and an area map of Rome, so you can have a better idea of how close your accommodation is in relation to the tram route. Click on either map of Rome to see a larger image.

As you can see the public transport Rome tram routes are quite limited in the center.
The most beneficial routes would perhaps be:

  • the No. 8 from Trastevere to Campo dè Fiori/Torre Argentina along Via Arenula, and vice versa , and
  • the No. 3 from San Giovanni to Colosseum/Caracalla/Termini and vice versa.

The colors and numbers of the tram routes on my maps match up to those on the ATAC diagram.

The tram stop names for the No. 8: Argentina - Trastevere route are:

  • Argentina (Via di Torre Argentina, next to Area Sacra di Torre Argentina)
  • Arenula/Ministero Giustizia (via Arenula in front of the justice ministry)
  • Belli (via Arenula)
  • Trastevere Mastai (Piazza Mastai, viale di Trastevere)
  • Trastevere Ministero Istruzione (in front of the ministry "istruzione" on viale di Trastevere)
  • Trastevere/Bernard de Feltre (by the square/piazza - largo Bernardino da Feltre)
