RomanLife 2 cents: One of the true good value budget hotels in Rome (bear in mind that it's difficult to plan a budget holiday in Rome). The hotel Golden offers excellent service and is a good base from which to explore Rome.

The added bonus is that you can appreciate a quiet retreat after a fast paced day of walking and sightseeing through Rome.

We found Hotel Golden Rome through the Rome hotel reviews on the internet and were not disappointed. A great little family run reasonably priced Rome hotel in a perfect location. My wife and I went to Italy to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and the Hotel Golden provided us with a great room (bigger than we expected for a hotel room in Rome), nice amenities and helpful staff. They even provide a computer to use at their desk. The bed was comfortable and the hotel rooms were nicely furnished. We took advantage of the airport shuttle transfer service and they were waiting for us at the airport as promised.

The breakfast is more than adequate (baked goods, Italian meats, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea, etc.) and constantly replenished by the attentive staff. The reception staff, mostly family, gave excellent Rome dining suggestions and transportation advice, and their Rome map that they hand-marked with the hotel and other Rome tourist spots was what we used most of the time. The location (just off the Via Veneto) is close to the Villa Borghese gardens and gallery, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and pretty much all the main historic sites in Rome. It's only a 5 minutes walk to two Metro stops (Barberini or Spagna) which are easy to use and convenient to many places, including the Vatican City an St Peters. The price is excellent, especially compared to other hotels in the Veneto area of Rome. We highly recommend the Hotel Golden Rome Italy, good Location & value.

Golden Hotel Rome

We stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Golden in Rome Italy, and by the end of our stay in Rome, it felt like saying goodbye to family. The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood of Rome, the Via Veneto area, and close to the Borghese Gallery, Spanish Steps, and Barberini metro station. Very easy walking to Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona - or else you can take the Electric tram (I believe the #116) which also stops close to the hotel.

The hotel staff gave wonderful advice on Rome transportation, eating, etc. and arranged our reservations to the Borghese Gallery and our tickets for touring Tivoli. The hotel rooms are spacious and the bathroom was big and beautiful. Everything was sparkling clean, fresh, and very comfortable. The morning breakfast in the dining area was always freshly prepared, well presented, with not a thing out of place. We never left hungry! In addition, 24-hour free internet service is provided with WI-FI throughout.

I definitely recommend the hotel golden Rome - it's in a beautiful area amongst other Rome hotels that cost at least twice as much! Even so, you couldn't replicate the personal touch that the staff give to make your Rome trip that much more memorable. I hope to return soon.

We stayed for two nights at the Golden Hotel Rome at the end of September 2008. Rooms pretty were quite ordinary but the location and the friendly staff were great - and who spends much time in their hotel room in Rome anyway. We felt very safe walking around the Veneto area at night. The staff were really helpful with directions and Rome transport etc. Well worth a visit for your next trip to Rome. Good Rome restaurant - Il Pomodoro we had a lovely meal there - pasta and fish with zucchini and we were surrounded by huge local Italian family groups on a Sunday night. We had a helpful waiter whose English was good and he helped us choose our meals.

We stayed at the Hotel Golden October 2008. We arranged a shuttle service from the Fiumicino airport to the hotel which helped eliminate a lot of stress. The hotel room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. We were also provided bathrobes and slippers to wear. There was a delicious breakfast each morning including cereals, fruits, meats, boiled eggs, pastries, juice and coffee.

The Golden hotel is family owned and operated and they all were so helpful. They recommended places to eat close by in the Veneto suburb and helped with directions and a map of Rome tourist sites. The family went out of their way to make our stay in Rome comfortable. The hotel was one block from Via Veneto and within walking distance to most of the Rome attractions. Our problem was Rome is not very accommodating for people in wheelchairs so it was tricky trying to maneuver Dad around. We fell in love with the family and the Hotel Golden Rome.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy--

We chose the Hotel Golden Rome Italy based on the price and the great hotel reviews we read here and on the internet. The hotel is immaculately clean, safe, and comfortable, and the King Size bed was wonderful after a day of sightseeing in Rome! The hotel staff was extremely helpful at all times and the breakfast was very good. The location is absolutely perfect, very quiet for sleeping but easy walking to most Rome historic sites (if you can walk for 30 minutes) or else take the Metro, there are stops nearby. The Spanish Steps are a 10 minutes walk, Trevi Fountain 10 - 15 minutes walk, Pantheon 15 minutes walk, Colliseum and Forum 25 35 minutes. We were very nervous about choosing a hotel in Rome, however this was a wonderful choice that we made. When we return to Rome we will come back to the Golden Hotel Rome.

Golden Hotel Rome Italy

We stayed at Hotel Golden Rome one night after our cruise. It is on the 2nd floor of a building that is over 200 years old, with a cage elevator from the 1930's, nice touch. We were early and didn't expect them to have our room ready, but they did. It was a king size bed room for two across from the desk. My sister had a single down a long hallway. Our room barely fit the bed as it was a small room. The bathroom was modern, but a "squeeze". It was a very clean and the bed was comfortable. The single room is extremely small, so if you are claustrophobic, this is not the room for you.

The whole family run the hotel and they are nice and always helpful. They gave us directions to the Rome sights restaurants and a big grocery store nearby. The breakfast in the morning was prepared by the Italian mother who bakes her own bread. They arranged a shuttle for us from the ship in Civitavecchia and it worked out very well. The restaurant they recommended was great, il Pomodoro, and right down the street. Dinner was at La Bruschetta, with good spaghetti with Alfredo sauce (don't let them serve you bread, it costs 7 Euros). Overall, a great location and a very nice family run business.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Golden Rome Italy at the end of a 2 week trip to Italy in March 2007. A lovely place, not only is the hotel completely non-smoking (my primary reason for picked it), but the family that runs it goes out of their way to look after their guests. We felt very welcome, the service was first class! I loved the bathrobe and slippers to relax in.

Their recommendations on Rome restaurants were wonderful as was their advice regarding Rome public transportation. We were there with our 2 year old, and they were very helpful about how we could best travel with her in her stroller. The shortcut to the Metro at the Spanish Steps (Spagna) was particularly appreciated on a rainy day. They also called to set up reservations to see the Villa Borghese Museum. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. All in all a wonderful experience, and we hope to stay at Hotel Golden Rome Italy again.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

The Hotel Golden Rome is rated a 2 star Rome hotel, but the service and room we had are 3 or 4 star. The Hotel Golden occupies the 2nd floor of an apartment building. There is no lobby, restaurant or concierge. You have to be buzzed into the building, just like an apartment building. It has a good location in the Veneto district, one block from the Villa Borghese Park, and one block from the very expensive Hotels and restaurants of the Via Veneto. It is a very quiet and safe area, very upscale.

4 minutes from the bus stop. Rome has frequent buses, but rather difficult to figure out where each is going (ask the hotel desk staff). This small hotel has about 12 - 16 rooms and is family run. Giuseppe, one of the two brothers, is outstanding and truly understands customer service. He helped us arrange day tours of Rome, and transportation. How many hotel owners would actually help you carry your luggage to the taxi? Giuseppe is a real gentleman and gem.

The hotel room we were given was excellent, a good size, quiet, large clean bathroom with shower. I did not see the other hotel rooms (another guest said her room was small). The breakfast was fresh with a nice variety and well served, although the breakfast room is quite small.
Rome Hotels are expensive and for the money I believe it would be difficulty find better value in Rome. When we return to Rome, we intend to stay at the Hotel Golden again.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

We have stayed at the Hotel Golden Rome twice, at the beginning and end of our trip through Italy. The hotel rooms are very clean, quiet, if a bit cramped, possibly because they were doubles masquerading as triples. The third bed was a foldaway ottoman at the foot of the two twins and took up most of the maneuvering space. The beds were comfortable, the foldaway less so, but my 16 year old didn't mind. The air conditioning was adequate for an intensely hot period in Rome (even the Romans were complaining). The bathroom was extremely clean with robes and slippers.

Breakfast was fine, no slimy salami or warm yogurt, as someone hotels in Italy serve, and there was a wide selection, although the fresh fruit seemed somehow more decorative. The tiny room wasn't really a problem, though we felt the need to keep our voices down a little, just in consideration for those who need a little quiet in the mornings.

he proximity to the Villa Borghese and the adjacent gardens was great. We walked to the coliseum and forum in one day, although it was too hot to walk back. The Spanish steps are close, and it's a pleasant walk downhill to get there - you arrive at the top of the Spanish steps, and can then continue down to the Trevi fountain, Piazza Venezia, etc. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, even late at night.

The family who run the hotel are pleasant and helpful with directions when asked. We found that the antique elevator and the need to be buzzed in every time we returned only added to the flavor of being in another culture.

Hotel Golden Rome Italy Center

After reading Rome hotel reviews my wife and I booked three nights at the Hotel Golden in Rome, Italy for early November 2008. On arrival at the Hotel (small second floor, probably a dozen rooms) the security guy unloaded our bags, and put us in the elevator cage up to the hotel. Giuseppe welcomed us to a small, but quite adequate room with two beds and a small bathroom. The room was super clean, the staff all spoke English and were very polite and helpful. The mattresses were comfortable, the air conditioning worked, the water was hot and the free continental breakfast was homemade and great. We cancelled our pre-arranged online booking from the hotel to the port of Civitavecchia when we found that Giuseppe could arrange a private taxi (his friend) at a much better rate. Additionally the hotel staff gave us tips on sightseeing and shopping in Rome which proved to be time saving and very valuable. When I return to Rome I will stay at the Hotel Golden again. It is very pleasant and a money saver, I highly recommend it.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

For the location you cannot beat the price of Hotel Golden Rome Italy. The room was not huge, but larger than other hotel rooms we'd stayed at in Italy. We traveled in 3 all around Italy, and it was a challenge to find hotels with a room to fit all of us. Hotel Golden is near to the nicest hotels in Rome, the US Embassy, and a nice stroll to the major monuments in Rome.

The bathroom was huge, something I love, though without a bathtub. The hotel room had a mini-bar, robes and slippers for all of us, it was very clean and well-maintained. WiFi access was included (although we had to ask the night manager to turn it on late one evening) and also satellite cable TV (not common in hotels in Rome).

The negatives: parking is difficult to find in the neighborhood (anywhere in Rome actually). We parked on the street and someone got into our car (without breaking a window) and stole a few things from the back seat. Nothing expensive, but we know better than leave bags in the car overnight, but we arrived late in Rome and in the rain and just didn't have a chance to get everything out of the car in one trip.

It's a little tricky to get into the building the first time, you must buzz the front desk. Breakfast was quite typical for a small Italian hotel. The management was very helpful and showed us how to get everywhere in Rome, drawing the routes on a Rome city map. I would stay here again.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

What a pleasure to write a review for the Hotel Golden Rome. My daughter and I stayed at the hotel recently and had a great experience. The hotel is situated on a small, quiet street in the Veneto area of Rome, just off the Via Veneto and near the Villa Borghese gardens. We stayed for just one night and booked the small double room, small, but so is a diamond - the room was sparkling and beautiful, with elegant curtains and bedspreads, an extra pillow in the closet, a nice little refrigerator, television with international cable stations, and free internet which we were able to access on our laptops. The bathroom was well kited with a big shower (this is rarity in a three-star hotel in Italy) and wonderful water pressure. The hotel room was in absolutely first-rate condition, not just immaculately clean, but also well-designed, beautifully tiled and equipped with fine fixtures.

The breakfast room was tucked into a small, but bright space, and the tables were decorated with elegant tablecloths and lovely dishes. There were various kinds of bread, croissants, jams, cheeses, meats, fruit and cereal, and nice Italian coffee. The Golden Hotel is a family-owned business, they do everything in the most professional manner but at the same time treating you like guests in their home. They remembered my name, anticipated several of our needs, and were more than happy to answer questions about Rome and historic places we might see during our brief visit to Rome. As a result, as soon as we returned to our temporary home on the Adriatic coast, I booked another stay at the Holden Golden Rome for later this spring, and we look forward to it!

Review of Hotel Golden Rome Italy: The staff were amazing!!

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy--

We are very satisfied with the Hotel Golden Rome Italy: clean, conveniently located with helpful staff. You can walk to Villa Borghese gardens, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, The Roman Colosseum, Roman Forum, and beyond; to Pantheon is about 25 minutes walk. The Spagna metro station is quite near at Spanish Steps, so we generally took metro to the Forum, Vatican, and other Rome historical sites as well as Ostia Antica.

The breakfast is ok, simple but sufficient. There are some restaurants not far from the hotel with good dinners. Be careful, in Italy they often add charges to the restaurant bills, items that you don't order, breads etc. and cover charges for a few Euros here and there.

For the Vatican tour, we booked through Viator; it was an excellent decision, no queues with an excellent tour guide. You may need to join a tour bus from Rome to Pompeii if you are going there. The local train from Naples to Pompeii (you need to transfer in Naples station if you are going to Pompeii from Rome) is rather uncomfortable and quite scary; many vagabonds and mean looking fellows stare conspicuously at you or your girlfriend or your wife; on our return trip, one Italian guy even provocatively kicked his shoe to my wife's foot and spoke something in Italian. When we finally couldn't tolerate him anymore and spoke to him in English, he went away and continued ranting. Do be careful if you travel with teenage daughters, Italian men like to flirt aggressively which may not be mean but it can be quite annoying. The Naples area seems quite forbidding. Gelatos and tiramisus are great. Enjoy but be alert - we visited during off-peak season but perhaps summer is safer with more tourists.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

We stayed at the Hotel Golden Rome the end of February 2009 and had an excellent time in Rome - largely due to the great the service at the hotel golden! The room was very small but we knew this when we booked the hotel. The hotel room was perfect, very clean, with a small but modern bathroom, very secure and we heard no noise and slept well the entire weekend! The staff were amazing, and please do (unlike us) listen to their recommendations on where to eat - they recommend some great local Roman places, packed with locals so you know it must be great! When we first arrived they gave us a Rome city map and pointed out all the Rome tourist attractions and good walking tours - tailored to what we wanted to do and see - and throughout are stay in Rome asked us how we got on - very nice touch. The hotel is in a great location, only a short walk from all the Rome tourist attractions but quiet and out of the way so you really feel like you're escaping after a long day of sightseeing in Rome!

Breakfast was nice with a big choice! We had to leave early on our last day (before breakfast) and asked if there was anything they could do. 5 minutes later they had organized fruit, cartons of orange juice and croissants along with some cookies - very, very nice touch! We would certainly recommend hotel Golden Rome.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

I stayed at the Golden Hotel for one night on a business trip through italy. I wanted a hotel in the beautiful veneto part of Rome (but in fairness I'm totally besotted by every part of this wonderful ochre-coloured city), and chose the Hotel Golden based on Rome hotel reviews. The hotel sign was clearly visible from the road but to enter you had to go through a large door of an apartment block (after dark the door is locked and you need to buzz) and up a stairway to the first floor. It’s a small hotel (in most meanings of the word) and family-run. The hotel had more of a pensione feel about it than a hotel. This is fine, but it all felt a little too small for me, very little room as the bed occupied about 90% of the room. It was comfortable and quiet though but seemed to have the potential to be noisy as the rooms are close together and to the reception area. I spent little time in my room so it fulfilled a function, but if on holiday in Rome this wouldn’t be my choice of accommodation.

-- Hotel Golden Rome Italy --

Four of us stayed in two rooms at the lovely Hotel Golden for 5 nights in June 2008. We liked that it was a small, personal family-run hotel. Our room was large and had a marvelous bathroom. The doors and windows were well insulated and kept all the noise out! Not all areas of the hotel had their air conditioning turned on in June but this one did. There was a computer in the lobby that guests could use. The hotel's breakfast selection was broad and the nearby Rome restaurants for dinner were reasonably priced with well prepared meals. We ate at il Pomodoro two nights. Prior to arriving my emails with the hotel were always answered quickly, a delight to deal with. My only wish was that the Hotel Golden was a bit more centrally located in Rome. However, it's very near Villa Borghese, a wonderful park with "bicycles for four". I would stay at the Golden Hotel again and highly recommend it.
