Grand Plaza hotel rome italy

Description: The Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy is situated in the historical center of Rome and only a short stroll from world famous Roman squares such as Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps), Piazza della Rotonda (home of the Pantheon) and Piazza del Popolo.

You will not need to wander far to capitalize on some of the best opportunities for shopping in Rome. The Roman Pantheon, Colosseum, Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps), Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, Bocca della Verita, St Peter's Basilica, Sistine Chapel, Vatican City, Capitoline Hill and Campo de Fiori are all less than a 20 minutes walk away!

The Hotel Grand Plaza Rome has 200 spacious rooms and suites styled with high Victorian ceilings, large marble bathrooms, period furniture and oriental rugs. Breakfast is served on a terrace with magnificent views of the Spanish Steps and Rome. There is an additional terrace available with sun beds, parasols and shaded areas.

RomanLife 2 cents: The Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy has an excellent location, and is within easy reach of Rome's biggest sights. Also the hotel rooms are spacious, which is not common for Rome, regardless of the star rating. There are however regular visitor concerns with regards to value for money and service. I suggest reading the Hotel reviews below. (Remember, opinions expressed in the reviews are not the opinion of RomanLife.)

My husband and I were planning a trip of a lifetime in Rome Italy to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, only to have our plans dashed by my husband having to undergo emergency stomach surgery. What was supposed to be a fun-filled one week trip to Rome turned into a traveler's worst nightmare. Without the help of the staff at the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy, I would not have been able to make it through the ordeal. The staff at the Grand Plaza were courteous, considerate, always there for me whenever I needed anything, be it a advice where to take my husband for treatment, or extending our stay from day to day as we ended up staying for two weeks at the hotel in Rome. They would ask about him every time I returned from the hospital, and many times translated Italian documents into English. They went above and beyond anything we could possibly have expected. We will never forget their kindness and generosity in every respect and we would whole heartily recommend the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy to anyone who asked us. In fact, when we return to Rome we will be staying at the Grand Plaza hotel Rome again!
* Liked — Staff was excellent; breakfast was great; our room was fabulous; fabulous view
* Disliked — our room was above a side street so there usually was noise from the cleanup crew

We just had our wedding reception in the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy and it was amazing!!! This luxurious 5 star hotel has an incredibly designed hall and dinner rooms. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic! We recommend this hotel for a wedding reception, it's the best possible!

Whenever I visited Rome as a child we stayed at the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy. My father adored the hotel. He traveled the whole world, but to him the Grand Plaza in Rome was the best hotel. I returned to Rome this year (2008) with my boyfriend, who had never been to Rome, and we stayed at the Grand Plaza hotel as a present from my mother. Nothing had changed, it is still like walking into a scene from Death in Venice except, obviously, it is in Rome. It has such beauty and faded glamour. There are no mod cons at the Grand Plaza, the rooms have a yellow fabric wallpaper, the bathroom is still marble. We loved drinking campari sodas in the bar at the top floor while overlooking to roof tops of Rome city and the Spanish Steps, hearing the bells of Roman churches, how much more romantic can you get? I know why my father loved the Grand Plaza hotel, it's a traditional hotel of the old fashion type, a true hotel.

My partner paid for a three night stay at the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy for my 30th Birthday. I can honestly say that i have never written a hotel review before but I felt the need to do so after staying at this hotel.

On arrival check in went smooth but from there things went down hill. Our hotel room had water stains in each corner and the bathroom looked run down. We asked to be moved, and our next room was slightly better, so we decided to get on with our trip in Rome.

On the second night at the Plaza hotel we decided to watch a movie thinking that for a 5 star hotel this shouldn't be a problem. They had two English channels and the charge was 16 Euros to watch one movie!

The room was cold and this is definitely not a 5 star hotel!! One good thing the location is great.......

What a disappointment! The web site of Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy displays pictures of a beautiful, opulent , 5 star luxury hotel which raised my expectations, only to have them dashed as soon as we entered the main lobby. What greeted us was a Grand opulent old building well past its best days.

It soon became evident that a great refurbishment project was underway, but to be fair the Grand Plaza hotel should have been closed while the work was carried out. Upstairs there was a thick layer of plaster dust lying over everything with builders tools had left lying around.

We waited for almost two hours before someone from maintenance came to repair our room safe. Food ordered from room service was quick but cold. The staff at the check-in desk couldn't be bothered and were not especially friendly or helpful. Emptying the bath resulted in water oozing up through the bathroom floor and it took half a day for someone to come and sort the problem out.

We had originally booked a four night stay at the Grand Plaza hotel but decided to check out after only one night and one day.
The hotel's location was superb for seeing the best bits of Rome, but sadly that's all the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy had going for it.

The Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy must be the worst 5 star hotel to have gained the rating. I made my reservation directly over the phone, the girl was very nice and said buffet breakfast was included, but it wasn't, and the manager was not available to discuss the matter.

That wasn't the only problem however, the hotel was dirty and grubby, the desk staff were unhelpful, the hairdryer and the chair in the room were broken and a glass shelf in the bathroom was coming off the wall.
Certainly not a five star hotel experience. I sent an email complaining but surprise surprise I received no response. The only positive about the Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy was the location!

Grand Plaza hotel rome italy

The Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy has so much potential. It could be the grand dame of Rome if someone knew how to run it and put money into refurbishing it, however in its present state, it is wildly over priced and quite funky.

On the plus side the hotel's city center position is fantastic. You can walk to most of the great tourist spots of Rome with just a little effort, and you're merely steps away from great food, shopping, and things to do in Rome. As city dwellers ourselves, we appreciated being in the heart of Rome, why come to a big city like Rome and be tucked away in some suburb?

The breakfast was good, with a wide of selection and presented nicely. Our hotel rate included breakfast so we ate well for free every morning. Unfortunately the pluses stop there.

The service was atrocious and probably the worst I've experienced anywhere in the world. The maids were friendly but the concierge and the front desk staff seemed to think it was an imposition to do anything for us. (Not that it should matter, but we are both well dressed early 30s professionals.) This was especially troublesome as we were forced to drop-off and pick-up our room key when we left or returned. I don't mind the custom but not when I get a reluctant sigh every time I ask for my key back. Sheesh!

The building itself is old and grand but in dire need of an upgrade. The hotel rooms were obviously once elegant and technologically sophisticated, but half the buttons didn't work. The wall covering was dirty and looked burnt, the bed was huge and relatively comfortable but the metal was rusted and flaking off. If we squinted we were able to envision a beautiful room, but as it was, it was trashy. The pictures on their web site are misleading. There is no fancy rooftop bar (it's closed and difficult to get to) and the patios are overgrown with weeds and not much fun to sit on.

Given the Dollar/Euro exchange rate, this was a huge waste of money for us. We had a good time but we were on our honeymoon and took the whole thing in our stride as an adventure, however even if the exchange rate had been 1 to 1, we wouldn't have felt like we got anything close to a good deal.

If you have tens of millions of dollars you'd like to invest, I can highly recommend buying the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome, firing the staff and renovating the building. Otherwise, avoid the Grand Plaza Hotel like the plague.

Review of Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy: I decided to write this review so as to defend this hotel...

This is my first hotel review but I need to write this in hope that someone else's trip won't be spoiled by the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy.

On arrival we were told the room was not ready so we went to the hotel bar to have a drink. We witnessed the barman drop bar snacks on the floor and replace them on the bar counter! We should have known how this stay would turn out.

Our hotel room was a nice size but it was unclean and I found a few stray hairs on our bed sheets, and a funny smell that ended up being an old sandwich on the wardrobe, perhaps from the guests before us?! We had a small private terrace that had empty cans and rusty seats and when I went to freshen up in bathroom I stained my other half's new dress!

Grand Plaza hotel rome italy

In the bathroom we had a Jacuzzi bath but the jets didn't work, I didn't expect there to be a jacuzzi bath anyway. When I ran the bath and wanted to drain the water from the tub when finished the bath would not empty. I called room service for the 4th time and they sent someone up who could not speak English and therefore couldn't understand what I needed repaired. I pointed at the bath and he then left the room and I got a call from front desk saying it would be fixed ASAP! We went out for drinks and dinner and got back to find our bath still full. The same water that would still be there the morning after! Not appropriate for a 5 star hotel 3 star or any other star hotel in Rome for that matter!

I went to speak to the manageress about the situation but she was the rudest person I have ever spoken to. She said it would be fixed but that she was not aware and asked why hadn't called front desk! So, hoping that when we got back to the hotel, after a day sightseeing in sunny wonderful Rome, we would be able to shower, the bath was still full of the same dirty water from the first day! Straight to the front desk and rather annoyed I demanded to speak to the night manageress but was told that she was at home asleep and that i would have to wait till morning. At this point I lost my temper but we were eventually allowed to use another hotel rooms bath!

We then enquired if we could book a car to Fiumicino airport in the morning but were told it's not possible after 10pm and we would have to find our own taxi on the street at 5am! The staff don't care, the rooms are dirty. I have been to Rome many times and would suggest you rather try the Eurostars International Palace or La Griffe Hotel, not too far away from Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy but Worlds apart in service.

I decided to write this review so as to defend the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy. I had many doubts about it due to the negative comments I had read previously. However the hotel proved to be very clean, peaceful, and with the BEST LOCATION. There are a variety of things to choose from at breakfast and beautiful aristocratic ballrooms.

Of course it is not a deluxe hotel so don't expect to find a pool, and additionally if you want to see a movie on your TV you have to pay 16 Euros! But you will definitely enjoy your stay.

Review of Grand Plaza hotel Rome Italy: historic building with a beautiful ambience ...

-- Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy --

We just returned from our first trip to Rome where we stayed at the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy. It's a historic building with a beautiful ambience situated on the main street, Via Del Corso. The hotel rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The location is perfect walking distance to all Rome tourist attractions. Improvements could be made, for example a walk in shower would have been appreciated rather than climbing into a bath and holding a shower! Also a tea/coffee maker would be nice. All said I would definitely return to the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy.

-- Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy --

The female hotel manager and the female concierge at Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy left me wondering if the definition of hospitality got lost in translation. As a hotel employee in the States I was shocked by the lack of respect given to the guests by the hotel management. Our family had three rooms of which one had severe drainage problems in the shower. My parents were told by the there was nothing they could do about the problem, they did not offer to change rooms or offer a discount. More importantly though, not once did she say "sorry for the inconvenience" or anything of that nature. And heaven forbid you ask the female concierge for directions to anything in Rome! I tried once to ask for directions to a landmark in Italian but she looked at me like I was the dumbest person alive. I know my Italian is not that great, but at least I was trying. She eventually pointed to some place on my map which ended up being a 15 minute walk from where we really needed to be. The other hotel employees (bartenders, housekeepers, and breakfast room attendants) were personable and helpful and I hope they will remain untarnished by the influence of the bitter hotel manageress.

Many thanks to the young man working as a bartender on the rooftop hotel bar. He treated us like royalty and went out of his way to make my dad's drink each night. There was only one bottle of his brand of Scotch on the property which was kept in the lobby bar, he went back and forth to the lobby bar each time my dad needed a drink. "Above and beyond" service in my opinion since any other employee would probably have just said they didn't have it.

-- Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy --

We just come back from 3 days in Rome (May 2008) with a stay at the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy. The hotel’s strength is its location which is quick 2 minutes stroll from the Spanish Steps, 5 minutes from the Trevi fountain (Piazza di Spagna) and only 10 minutes from the Roman Pantheon. The location of the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy is A1.

We reserved a family apartment on the 2nd floor of the hotel (for 3 family members traveling together). The room size was good and the outside space great to relax. However the condition of the hotel room and especially the common parts of the hotel were a disgrace. Our bathroom was not cleaned and had mould in the shower. Following a complaint from us the hotel staff spent 20 minutes bleaching “an already cleaned” bathroom. We requested to speak to a manager but were told that no management was available on Sundays. The room was poorly decorated with paint peeling from the ceiling of the bathroom and paint over the power points etc. quite a shame as the potential for the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy is fantastic.

Rome is a city to go out and see – my advice is to spend less on your hotel and more enjoying the attractions of Rome. If I were handing out standards aware I would the Grand Plaza Hotel Rome Italy a 2 star rating – funny enough the manager also did not understand how it had 5 stars and told us that it must have been set some time ago!
